In december 1934 Sweden sent a battalion to the Territory of the Saar Basin. A area that was occupied by the UK and France and was later made a League of Nations mandate in 1920. A referendum was planned to take place in 1935 If the Saar territory would remain a mandate or join France or Germany whit 90% of the voters voting for reunification whit Germany as a result. The Saar battalion was a peace keeping force under the mandate of the League of Nations to oversee the referendum and be deployed if the local police could not handle the situation if things where to turn violent.
