was it yellow?
The only thing I can think of when I see this pic is the Hindenburg
That style is exactly what I’d imagine a French zeppelin to look like.
That must have been astonishing to see in 1903, something so large taking flight. The height of the Belle Époque.
Part of me wishes we never progressed past zeppelins and blimps as methods of leisure air travel (despite how slow they are).
There is just something so captivating about seeing them float around. And being aboard one for a trip complete with a dinner party must have been something else
When I was small, I use to think the passengers were carried inside the big balloon.
Looking at this I just can’t help but think of the wonder this instilled peoples minds. Over a 100 years ago. Some of these crowds are dreaming of the future. Much like we do today. Who knows what will stick and what will change.
Imagine all the people looking up thinking it was the future.
When people today see the Goodyear Blimp they freakout about the size and shear spectacle of it. The Le Jaune was roughly the same size (well both were about 60 meters in length (which I think is 150 feet?)) but I can’t imagine how wild it must have been for people to see these enormous airships in the early years of the 20th ce.
