The Capital Regiment of the National Guard was the main military formation alongside other volunteer forces and militias of the Vietnamese National Army (predecessor of the PAVN-not to be confused with a french-backed one with the same name many years later) defending the city of Hanoi following the beginning of the Indochina War. Most of the cities under the DRV’s control across Vietnam fell within the matter of days but Hanoi held out for 2 months allowing the Government and most of its armed forces retreated safely to the bases in the jungle and continue the war.
Due to the improvised and chaotic nature of the Vietnamese National Army following the establishment of the Democratic Republic mere 1 years ago and general lacks of equipment, you can see that the general staffs wore a tons of mix-matched uniforms and even plain civilian.
