This is the same site TE Lawrence dug in before the war with Woolley. I’ve read Wooley’s book about the site, and it’s a great read. I do, at times, want to pull my hair out though. ” Today, w eexcavated 200 burial sites, nothing found of note.”
Also if you read between the lines of the earlier pre war digs, there are bits where the British archaeologists would go out “surveying” on the German archaeologists and vice versa. Also the Brits were also surveying the German train line that the Germans built and Lawrence later blew up.
