I lived in Quito at that time. I must have been 6 or 7 years old and was at my grandma’s house staring at that Giant mushroom from her kitchen. Panic ensued a few days after that and kids had to have goggles and masks with them at all times during school hours. We still often get a lot of volcanic activity in Ecuador nowadays but this went down in history.
