The M4A3E8’s Concrete Armor was issue by the 12th Armored Division in February-January 1945. In order to strengthen the Sherman’s anti-tank features the 12th’s ordnance officers decided to develop a local expedient using concrete applied over the glacis plate and the hull sides with steel rebar for internal reinforcement.
