The industrial and military might of the USA during WWII is well illustrated here with the entire surface of the ship being covered with mustang and seagull aircraft. These would have been used in the Pacific theatre but were probably flown by Australian or British pilots, not American.

What’s the likelihood of all these planes falling off the ship? Surely strong waves are a hazard right?
Fuck! My dad was on this boat all the way to the end of the war. He told me they hit a big typhoon off the Philippines and lost about 50 planes.
