Gorgeous. I assume nothing but the church spires in the background survived the world wars, and the reconstruction period.

The Schwebebahn is a central part of the local public transport here in Wuppertal. In contrast to most german cities its size, Wuppertal does not have a metro system.
Instead people travel to work, school and so on suspended over the nowdays much smaller river, the wupper, wich runs through the city.

They had an elefant travel on that thing as a marketing gag for a circus. It then fell into the river underneath.

The system remains in use today. Tom Scott has a video devoted to it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4KZLcvMQWg
I also recently discovered a travel Youtuber who also covers it (and references Tom Scott’s video) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IFh6wFTJiQ
