Photographs above mainly show the old Foumban Palace (destroyed by 1910), at this time ruled by King Njoya. The later reconstruction – that still exists today – would be designed in a Western-Arab inspired style.
The Bamum Kingdom had be established in the region since the 1300s.

That’s amazing! I admittedly know very little about pre-colonial Africa. I should change that.
