Least we get too sentimental, it’s estimated that under Tsar Nicholas II’s reign nearly 750,000 – 1,500,000 people were murdered, including a number of Jewish people swept up into various progroms.
The piss-poor management of the Russian Empire which lead to the brutal murder of the Tsar and his family.
Replacing him with an ideology arguably far worse and which lead to the deaths of many millions more.
We tend to broadly paint Emperors and Kings as universally bad, but throughout history there were many who did well by their people. Noblesse Oblige.

Russian nobility.. Better looking than most of the rest of the monarchies in Europe at the time. I read once, the reason they were murdered: The White army had a brief moment where they were encroaching on where the Romanov family were being detained, and the Bolsheviks could not let them be freed, and thus re-take the throne..

Fun fact there is still a micronation Romanov Empire in West Africa

By this picture, seems him and his wife continued having kids until a male heir came out!

He was a terrible ruler but an excellent father. He may have deserved death for the atrocities under his rule but his family was innocent.

A poet by the name of Sergey Bekhteev written a poem to Grand Duchesses Olga and Tatiana and sent to them. When Olga recieved it, she copied it and put it in her book. It was found by Anti-Bolshevik forces who wanted to know what happened in Ipatiev House.
The poem is written below.
_____
Give us Patience, Lord to us thy children,
In these dark stormy days to bear,
the persecution of our people,
the tortures falling to our shores.
Give us strength, just God to us who need it,
the persecutors to forgive,
our heavy painful cross to carry,
and thy great meekness to achieve.
When we are plundered and insulted,
in days of mutinous unrest,
we turn for help to thee, Christ Savior,
that we may stand the bitter test.
Lord of the world, God of Creation,
Give us thy blessing through our prayer,
give us peace of heart O master,
this hour of utmost dread to bear.
and on the threshold of the grave,
breathe power divine into our clay,
that we, Thy children, may find strength,
in meekness for our foes to pray.

Reading the account of what happened to them in that dirty basement was tough.

I’m conflicted by this, the Romanov Dynasty was an oppressive and murderous regime so I feel little sympathy for Nicholas, however the murder of the rest of his family seems so brutal and immoral

A little interesting and a bit weird tidbit. I was doing home health care, and I went to this couple’s home to help them. The older guy was talking about all kind of stuff. He then got on this subject. He claimed that his grandmother was Anastasia and she moved to the US seeking asylum. He said his father told him about it and said they were heirs. But you only had til like the age of 30 to come forward. He said that his father missed the opportunity and encouraged him to come forward. He then explained how he put ads in the newspaper (lol) and he was contacted, but they wanted to do something that he was against and he just left it alone.
I left that house very confused. And then I felt bad for his wife.
Yeah, they overthrew the government to make way for a newer, more violent, government. Poor Russians can’t catch a break.

If your interested in another member of the Romanov dynasties fate you should look up Grand Duchess Elizabeth of Russia.
A woman who was practically considered a saint before her Murder.

Probably shouldn’t have pogromed Jews and forced a starving feudal population to fight against a massive industrial and military power, whilst ordering his soldiers to shoot into the crowds of innocent protesters. Obviously his children were innocent of this and it was unfortunate they became collateral, but as far as Nicholas goes he got off easy.

There’s a famous video of them being assinated and jewels and gold is flying everywhere because they tried to smuggle it out in all there clothing. The youngest son also had hemophilia and had to be watched constantly.

There was a book titled [I Vampire](https://www.amazon.com/Vampire-Confessions-Loves-Strangest-Desires/dp/0449146383/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1531845084&sr=8-3&keywords=i+vampire&dpID=41jDeB2EIpL&preST=_SY291_BO1,204,203,200_QL40_&dpSrc=srch) in which the main character [Grand Duchess Tatiana Nikolaevna of Russia](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1f/Tatiana_Nikolaevna.jpg) was a vampire. The story mentioned that she somehow survived the slaughter with the help of Rasputin the Mad Monk. It was actually a pretty good book. Tatiana is on the very right in this picture.
