Was the large scale execution of POWs rare in WW2? From pop culture some American soldiers admit to executing individual soldiers but not in groups. Such as Frank Sheeran from "The Irishman"

The last known living survivor of this event, Harold Billow, lives about a mile from where my wife grew up. He’s a celebrated and much-loved member of the community in Mount Joy, PA.
