Fascinating how they had the clergy sanctify the monument even though it is secular in nature.

Is that monument still there?
Porodicnostablo
The monument was placed there on the 3rd anniversary, June 28th 1917.
When the new Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (Kingdom of Yugoslavia) formed in 1918, the monument was removed and placed in the garden of the National Museum in Sarajevo.
It stood there throughout the kingdom of and communist Yugoslavia, until the 1970s when it mysteriously disappeared.
Now parts of it can be found in Sarajevo, Trebinje…

I’ve been listening to Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History – Blueprint for Armageddon where he tells this story quite colorfully. Highly recommended listening.

That’s awesome I’ve been to that intersection and it looks so similar even today. It was crazy standing at the nexus of the modern geopolitical world.
