Context. The OSS cooperated with the Chetniks to evacuate 417 (343 American) downed Allied airmen from their territory, i.e. territory of the German Army, who also cooperated and fought alongside the Chetniks. Mihailović’s forces rescued American and German airmen alike in an attempt to gain support from both.
