I think that cow on the left may be “playing dead”.
The photographer had some serious brass balls to get this photo.

The cow on the right is ready to explode. There would have been a good amounts of putrid rotting innards covering a sizable radius from that cows carcass had it been hit by a round. Poor choice for cover if you ask me, concealment maybe.
