There’s a great documentary called “crossing the line” about some of these guys. As well as a book called “the reluctant communist: my desertion, court-martial, and Forty-year imprisonment in North Korea”

Dresnok and Jenkins and the other more famous defectors didn’t defect until 1962 at the earliest, these are American POWs who refused to be sent home after prisoner exchanges were arranged to end the war in 1953.
