Right now, that very same painting is undergoing its first major restoration since the one in which those tears were repaired. It must be incredible being able to see it up close.

The enormous painting was once damaged by a shoemaker in 1911, and then again in 1990, when someone poured acid on it. Interestingly, the painting was originally even larger, but a lot of its edges were cut before its move to fit into its new location, and had no title because it was ordered as a whole wall of decor, at the City Guard casino. Much later, it received its title from experts for reference. By that time, however, there were so many layers of dirt, that the work was thought to be night-time, but its originally painted in a daylight theme. After the restoration, which began in 2018, it is said that the painting will be shining in its original "light".
