I had a part gig, as a student, doing phone surveys. There were three, full time, Serbian guys running the show with Coca Cola surveys. I used to sneak a smoke with them in the washroom. I had an affinity with these guys because my parents are Macedonian, and the languages are similar.
Everytime I referred to them as Serbian, they would correct me and instruct me to use ‘Yugoslavian’. This was in ’92 and I found it super-interesting. They were good guys, but fiercely Yugoslavian.
