Why so expensive?
$3M in 1955 for an undeveloped patch of desert. Seems like a lot!
That’d be like $28,800,000 in today’s terms.
What you don’t see is the already built up Las Vegas strip. This pic is angled to hide it. There were many casinos here at this time so the land was pricey.

Interesting fact: the Strip is actually not in the city of Las Vegas. The purposely built it outside of city limits to avoid building restrictions.
How much for the car hood?
There will be a lot of bodies buried out there 20 years later..
The entire city of Vegas serves no purpose other than to drain resources.
