crosstherubicon: I don’t think we really have insight into the horror of ww1. Whole villages and towns lost all of their young men. It’s always struck me how much of the historical treatment of appeasement prior to ww2 implies it was based on fear of hitler whereas some have talked of their horror at repeating the consequences of ww1
