Brave horsemen of a traditional age, galloping towards a modern war.
Check out “Oh! What a Lovely War” sometime. One of the greatest anti-war movies ever made. There’s a memorable song and dance number near the beginning of the movie, of the French cavalry going off to war. http://www.ww1photos.com/KiboshOnKaiserVideo.html
Last remnants of the age of chivarly going off to war to win glory and wet their swords in german blood. Then a machine gun starts firing. It’s staggering to think of the waste. I hope I can live out my days in peace and never have to take up a gun.
Still thinking they will dominate the battlefield.
That will soon change…
Risky move going into battle against enemies with ranged weapons that do piercing damage while wearing low level non-magic gear with no pierce resistance. Better hope the Germans are using slashing/crushing weapons or the whole raid group is gonna wipe when their paladins get taken out
Reminds me of the scene from the Return of the King as the riders of Minas Tirith ride out to retake Osgiliath. The men knowing they will likely not return, and the women and children morning and giving them flowers.
