Wrecked British army vehicles on the outskirts of Dunkirk beach, Set on fire by British soldiers to prevent further use by the Germans. 1940. [2000×1108]
I always remember the quote from German Army Commander Fedor von Bock per Evans’ “Third Reich At War”. After Dunkirk, Bock gets to the site and recorded the following:
>The English line of retreat presents an indescribable appearance. Quantities of vehicles, artillery pieces, armoured cars and military equipment beyond estimation are piled up and driven into each other in the smallest possible space. The English have tried to burn everything, but in their haste have only succeeded here and there. Here lies the materiel of a whole army, so incredibly well equipped that we poor devils can only look on it with envy and amazement.
