The most beautiful city in the world, or as we call it, the City.

I wish i’ve lived in those times. That city looks like it has a soul. Nowadays, it’s just chaos. Don’t get me wrong, i LOVE Istanbul, i’ve born here and lived my entire life, but i’ve wish i had the chance to experience what these people have experienced.

I don’t understand, Istanbul is wet, humid and hot. How the hell those people kept wearing full suits..

These were last years of secular founder party of turkey which is CHP. Then İslamic party (dp) had power and they prevent land reform. So all villagers came İstanbul and created slums. Good Old days

It was fun to count how many people were checking out the ladies wearing red and yellow.

Sometimes I wonder why all men wore suits and hats back then. Even the newspaper man in the picture is wearing a suit.

This is evidence of time travel! If you look on the bottom right side, the man in the black suit standing next to a soldier. If you follow their eye-line to the left, you will see a man with a carrier bag. On that bag, you will see the face of Rufus, from Bill and Ted. Actual prof of time travel!

This picture is in taken in the era of the personas lived in Istanbul called ”Beyoglu Gentleman”. Beyoglu is somewhere all the elite of Istanbul have lived. The manners and the attitudes has the trace of the western politics. The suits was the code of manners in these days. These man be wiped in the history due to the migration from villages to cities.

The beauty of it is, Istanbul still looks this magnificent and do you see those ships/boats(i don’t know which one it is sorry haha) in the background? The city of Istanbul still has them in use and they are very great to be in, slow but nostalgic.

We still have the boats. They are awesome.
karafili
Amazing view of the bridge. People look so much cooler than nowadays Istanbul (live the city btw)

I do believe they used these ferries when filming From Russia With Love, a James Bond film.

These beautiful boats are still in service, and incredibly cheap to ride. It’s a wonderful way to see the city!
edit : and if you like this and "prokudin-gorskii" doesn’t mean anything to you – look it up and thank me later. 🙂

I adore Istanbul, visited there last year from the U.S… this pic makes me want to go back. I’d say 25-30% percent of the women I saw dressed in western fashion compared to the 99% shown in this pic. Things have changed.
Arcane_Pretender
Wait, this isn’t a picture of Constantinople?!
CARNIesada6
Anyone else see Joe Pesci on the left and Desi Arnaz above him?
mysteryscoop
Is this coloured pic?

Because of Gollum Erdogan, they’re a less civilized country today, than they were in 1948.

Do Turkish men even go bald? Every man here has a supreme head of hair, or maybe the bald ones are wearing hats.
