The one on the left looks like a kid himself.
Looks like they got off lucky, to be honest.
Is there a description page on the source? Some details would be informative.
This picture was taken by [Lee Miller](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Miller), who is relatively unknown despite living one of the more fascinating lives of any woman in the 20th Century.
EDIT: It’s also worth knowing that these guards are dressed like this because they tried to disguise themselves as civilians and sneak away.
Those civilian clothes… They tried their best to hide, but all rats are eventually dragged from their holes.
All they got was an ass kicking? They should’ve been skinned alive.
Good. Daily beatings for years should be their fare.
Damn, no orbital fractures? Their attackers were either malnourished or generous. It really speaks to the character of their captives that this scum wasn’t immediately, violently murdered.
Whoa, I visited Buchenwald this past summer and the building with all of these cells was incredibly difficult to be in. Super fascinating though!
I hope they aren’t sitting because their asses hurt too badly…
That all that happened to them what they did? Id study that Japanese death sentence where you stab the guy like 300x in places where he doesnt bleed out before he dies…they are lucky they didnt have the energy to do more
Incredible restraint shown by the prisoners, considering how those guards survived the beating.
Edward R. Murrow was there at the liberation as a embedded reported.
[His account of what he witnessed that day are chilling](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1o-CUOiKCCg)
Sorry that the broadcast is a bit harsh, it clears up after about 3 minutes but I must insist you do not skip the beginning.
I’d love to say that these guys should have been killed but if I’m being honest they were probably just doing the job they were forced to do or else they’d be executed by their officer, they’re kids too. I know it was horrible what happened there and I totally agree that the officers should be die a horrible death but I’m not sure if I feel the same about people who may not have had any other options. Not saying they shouldn’t be punished harshly
Looks like they, eh, slipped on a wet floor during arrest.
Part of me thinks, ‘great, they got what they deserved’.
Another part of me thinks, ‘that’s so sad & I feel sorry for them. What if they were just going along with what they were told because they were scared of being killed if they went against orders’
I wanted to upvote this image. Vengeance sounds great until you look it in its face. Violence, hatred, the worst aspects of human existence—just feels like a huge bummer when you stop and really look.
No one else thought the guy on the right looks like Anthony Michael Hall?
Damn that’s my grandfather on he left. I always tell people my grandpa got beaten during his time in a concentration camp. But I don’t go into much more detail than that…
The guard on the right has a very punchable face
