Frankie Groves was the first girl to play football in Texas. She played one game for Stinnett HS in 1947. Coach Truman "Chief" Johnson, who saw her playing football with her brothers and said, "I wish I had you on my team." She played eight plays in the second quarter against Groom. The fallout from that game included the coach being fired at the end of the year, her father having to resign as school board president, and her mother so distressed that she would not go shopping in town for an entire year. Because word had leaked out that she would be suiting up, there were reporters at that game from all over the country, and there were 3,000 people at the game. Coach Johnson and Frankie were invited to New York to be on the radio show called "We the People", but they did not go. – Hutchinson County Historical Museum
