Imaging risking your life and giving up everything to fight for your country. The only thing that likely kept these men sane is the thought of returning home to their loved ones. Regardless of the side he fought on, it’s devastating to see the last good thing in a mans life taken away, after such a huge sacrifice.
Life’s not fair.

Whelp… I hope we’re not supposed to feel sympathy.

The despair he must have felt. Its heartbreaking.

I would love to read the backstory, if someone has it or a link, that’d be awesome.

Does anyone know where this was taken? It’d be insightful to know whether it was indiscriminate bombing or ideological warfare that caused his family to die

From the looks of the building, I’d say it’s a good thing the family isn’t still there. They’re more likely to be alive somewhere else.

All we really know is this is a photo of a guy crying. Where are the details from the caption coming from and how can anyone be sure the caption is accurate? For the caption to be accurate the person who shot the photo would have to have been part of the process of the photos publication, something hard to demonstrate. It’s very easy to imagine someone completely unfamiliar with the photos actual circumstance being tasked with writing a snappy headline, and completely inventing the blurb for the sake of the photos eventual application.

Damn man, I just saw some cute cat toes videos and went from warm fuzzy feeling to feeling just awful for this poor guy. I can only his gut wrenching pain expecting to see his family. Probably the only thing that kept him going too. Shame.
