The Japanese treated non-white prisoners even worse …

The Japanese have never properly atoned the way the Germans have.

If you’re up for some mega long podcasts, look up George Dan Carlin’s "Supernova in the East" – a fantastic history of the WWII Pacific theater and some of the what and why the Japanese were the way they were. The shortest version a quote he says just about every episode – "The Japanese are just like everyone else, only more so." This kind of thing was pretty common, along with even more gruesome things like bayonet practice (on living captives) and other tortures. Some of it was your usual people are horrific during wartime, but turned up to 11 because Japanese. Some of it was top down orders to make sure soldiers knew to fight to the death for every inch of land with the knowledge that if we’re doing this to our prisoners, imagine what they’ll do to you if you’re captured alive.
It’s a lot of hours to get caught up and usually months between each show but I recommend it if you like history at all.

My grandparents fled Japan right before the war because their political opinions put a giant target on their backs. When the US got involved with the war my grandfather fought on the European front, while my grandmother was placed in an internment camp. They both had citizenship taken away from them, yet they were still so patriotic. After the war they were forced to go back to japan but the disgust for the government boiling within them just kept growing. That disgust has been passed down to me.
It’s disgusting that these things are hidden under the rug.
Obviously I am not proud that my people did this and I feel shame, but what is more shameful is not giving the victims the only thing that they can be given now, clarity to what actually happened to them.
It should be taught in schools.
It should be talked about in the media.
It should be a stain of shame just like how Hitler is for Germany, and how slavery is for Americans.
Why is it so hard to give this to the people who have been wrongfully executed?
Why were war criminals not brought to justice like in Nuremberg?
Why is it so hard?
It is cowardly to push it away.
Then again, why should we be surprised? Why should I be surprised? The Japanese government has treated indigenous Japanese (what I am) people like they are inhuman. Segregated us and let us be put in “human zoo’s”.
But sure let’s focus on cute anime girls, sushi, and sex robots, because THATS what’s important.
Japanese internment camps were an awful experience, and my grandmother made that very clear, however- just because one thing is bad doesn’t mean something else that is bad is now perfectly okay. Murdering for fun is still murdering, even if there is a war going on.

This picture absolutely disgusts me.
