What happened to these American made tanks after WW2? Were they returned to the US or did they hold onto them during the Cold War?
Thanks for sharing!
Does anyone recognise where this might be in the city?
Apparently Sherman tanks were pretty shitty and we’re mass produced cheaply and quickly, which resulted in alot of design flaws
Does anybody know if the Soviets actually liked the Shermans, considering they’re willing to use them over T-34s in some units?
I believe that is a SU-100 bringing up the rear.
Where in Vienna ?
Those look up-gunned. Did we give 76mm Shermans to the USSR?
Edit: Looks like it: "Under Lend-Lease, 4,102 M4A2 medium tanks were sent to the Soviet Union. Of these, 2,007 were equipped with the original 75 mm main gun, with 2,095 mounting the more-capable 76 mm tank gun."
Spent ages "wandering" Vienna on Street View. This is the closest I could find: https://email@example.com,16.3726199,3a,75y,83.94h,73.37t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sqYhJUiv9ihZ6xR32HkFQDg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
Lots of development and changes but maybe there are enough points of reference on a couple of the buildings? Or have I just started seeing things…
