“More than 60 million soldiers fought in ‘The War to End All Wars’. It ended nothing.”
On the 11th of November, 1918, the guns fell silent. On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month the fighting stopped. After the deaths of 16 million men and women, the guns were laid down and the trenches abandoned. The fighting had lasted 4 years and involved the whole world in a conflict of immense proportions.
On the 11th of November we remember those who served, not just in the First World War but in all conflicts since then. We remember those who gave their lives in the pursuit of a better world for tomorrow. Lest we forget.
