Official U.S. Navy photo 80-G-K-15334 from the U.S. Navy Naval History and Heritage Command, by Lieutenant Charles Kerlee, USNR.
Wildcat fighters on the left and Dauntless dive bombers on the right?
Edit: /u/AgCat1340 pointed out that the landing gear is wrong for the planes on the left to be Wildcats and are most likely TBF Avengers.
I’m confused. Wasn’t the *Yorktown* sunk at the Battle of Midway in 1942?
Built in Newport News, this is her moving to the Pacific theatre after commissioning. She is now an awesome museum ship in Charleston SC. Cool photo!
Wonder if any of those sailors fell of the edge?
how much space is between the carrier and the edge? looks like inches from this angle
Check out all the brass on the balcony below the flight deck.
I live about an hour from where it is now. I love going to see it, and they’ve been adding to the museum portions of the area over the years. There’s currently plans to make a large museum building at Patriots Point, I think.
Was this boat apart of the Vietnam war? I have been told my grandfather was apart of the crew in that era.
Back then if you fell off they just called you an idiot.
